When the infamous Robin of Loxley gets hurled into an accidental timewarp at the hands of incompetent wizard Fahjah, little do the unlikely duo know what rises ahead for them in the urban depths of today’s Bridgend. Men in Tights meets the East Wales Massive as Robin discovers fate may have landed him just where he’s needed most. And twitch the utterly shaggable Maz on the scene, he’s in no hurry to rush back to chamber pots and incest! Sharik is a stray mongrel, starved, malnourished and on the verge of death when he finds himself rescued by the world famous rejuvenation therapist, Professor Philip Philipovich. Sharik comes to find that life is good as a gentle men’s dog, but the professor has other plans than a life of luxury for Sharik… Heart of a Dog was written by Mikhail Bulgakov in the wake of the Russian civil war. An allegorical and satirical tale about the dangers of social engineering. It was deemed too subversive for publication in Russia until 1987.

Shakespeare’s excellent study in ambition has never been more relevant than right now. This modern, site-specific adaptation drags the text into a political world not unlike our own, a world where women are finally permitted to ascend to the highest office. Performed in the round in Cardiff City Hall’s Council Chamber, with a mixed gender cast, this is an interpretation that interrogates our own political system and sheds new light on a text that has a timeless resonance. ]]> Act One are proud to announce that they are the 2012 winners of the coveted ‘Best Society’ Award from Cardiff University Student Union!

We are also the winners of the ‘Best Marketing Strategy’ Award (particularly for the work of Main Productions White Crow, Monstrous Regiment and King Lear) and are now a ’Gold Star’ level Society.

Disco Inferno, this year’s most recent main production, came runner up for ‘Best Musical Performance’, and Act One also got a nomination in the ‘Best Webpage’ Category.
